If you’re a Bear McCreary fan and frequent his blog, you already know he put up a web design contest a while back. The Battlestar Galactica Orchestra wanted a website for their band and showed their modesty by giving fans the chance to chime in with their design suggestions.
The grand prize winner would enjoy the following awards:
- 2 VIP Passes to “The Music Of Battlestar Galactica” Concert at the House of Blues, Thursday, July 23rd in San Diego. (Includes open bar, exclusive autograph signing, VIP seats, but does not include travel expenses.)
- Exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Sound Check on the day of the show
- Bear’s personal baton and signed set list used in the concert
- A signed “Battlestar Galactica: Season 4″ 2-CD soundtrack
- “Battlestar Galactica Orchestra” poster signed by the band
- An ‘About the Web Designer’ feature page on the site
- Bear’s eternal gratitude
A few days after the contest had been announced, I decided to ante up with a design of my own. I only had three days to put up a full-fledged website, so I just had to trust my instincts and go with the creative tide. On the day before the deadline, I delivered the result with mixed feelings.
Then, on the morning of July 2, my feet almost jumped out of their socks when I checked my inbox. Not in my faintest dreams had I thought I’d win. And last but not least, Bear is so impressed with my work that he has offered me a travel stipend to fly to San Diego and also a two-day hotel accomodation once I’m there!
More importantly, Bear McCreary fans seem to really like the design that I’ve made. if you haven’t posted your thoughts on the design already, please register on the BGO forums and tell me what you think!
The all-new Battlestar Galactica Orchestra Website
With that said and done, I wish to express my gratitude to Bear and his BGO team for giving me this opportunity. It’s been a very exciting process for me and I can’t wait for the trip to San Diego to kick off!
